Professor Gianfranco Parati

Gianfranco Parati is full Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Department of Health Sciences, and Director of the School of Specialization in Cardiovascular Diseases, University of Milan-Bicocca, Milan, Italy. Since 2008 he is also head of the Department of Cardiovascular, Neural and Metabolic Medicine and Rehabilitation Sciences, San Lucas Hospital, Istituto Auxologico Italiano, Milan, Italy.
Professor Parati is registered with the Order of Physicians, Surgeons and Dentists in Milan, Italy; license number: 0000017729.
Professor Parati received his MD degree from the University of Milan and his residency training in cardiology and in internal medicine at the Milan University Hospital. Thereafter, he attended various institutions as a visiting scientist, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA and Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. Professor Parati’s research interests include ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and analysis of cardiovascular variability; neural control of circulation; pathophysiology and treatment of hypertension; congestive heart failure, sleep and the cardiovascular system; obstructive sleep apnea; respiratory training and cardiovascular pharmacology, effects of exposure to high altitude hypobaric hypoxia. He is the author of over 780 publications in peer reviewed Journals and books (IF 1’415.6; H. Index 81; Total citations 30848) and serves on the editorial boards of several international journals including Journal of Hypertension (Executive Editor), Hypertension Research (Associate Editor), Hypertension, and Blood Pressure Monitoring Journal.
Professor Parati is current President of the Italian Society of Hypertension, chairman of the Working Group on Blood Pressure Monitoring of the Italian Society of Hypertension, past president of the Working Group on Heart Failure of the Italian Society of Cardiology and president of the Working Group on Blood Pressure Monitoring and Cardiovascular Variability of the European Society of Hypertension. He has also been nucleus member of the Working Group on Hypertension and the Heart of the European Society of Cardiology. He has been nominated international fellow of the High Blood Pressure Council of the American Heart Association, is Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and a member of the International Society of Hypertension, Council member of the European Society of Hypertension and Liaison Officer in the nucleus board of the Council on Hypertension of the European Society of Cardiology. Professor Parati has experience in clinical trials management, as he conducted clinical research according to GCP.
