Dr Blacher has worked as a cardiologist in the department of Internal Medicine and Therapeutics of Professor Michel Safar at Broussais university hospital in Paris since 1994; he works now, since 2003, in the Therapeutic and Diagnosis Center of Hôtel-Dieu university hospital in Paris (chair since 2006). He acts as a full professor of therapeutics in Paris-Descartes University since 2006.
He studied medicine at the Faculté Saint Antoine in Paris from 1981 to 1987 (University of Paris 6), and was graduate in medicine and in cardiology in 1994 (University of Paris). He also received from the Paris University a diploma in sports cardiology, echocardiography, and medical statistics, as well as the degree of Master of Biological and Medical Sciences. In the latter years, he received his Master 2 of Health Economics from the Claude Bernard University of Lyon, France, and his Ph D in cardiovascular pharmacology (University of Paris 6).
He completed his national medical service as a medical assistant in the department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Principal Hospital in Dakar, Senegal.
Dr Blacher is a member of the French Society of Arterial Hypertension (past president), the French Society of Atherosclerosis and the French Society of Cardiology.
Dr Blacher’s principal clinical interests are hypertension and its renal and cardiovascular consequences, cardiovascular epidemiology and cardiovascular and global prevention. His research work has focused on clinical aspects of hypertension, clinical physiology and cardiovascular epidemiology.
He received several research grants from both public and private sectors. He has published articles in many academic and professional journals, and has lectured extensively.
He has published more than 260 original papers and reviews in peer-reviewed journals, more than 240 articles in non-indexed journals and more than 40 book chapters. His H index is 44.
